Tsavo East & West

South-east Kenya

Tsavo East & West

Kenya's largest wilderness. Red dust, baobabs, lava flows and the Mzima Springs, with a fraction of the vehicles you meet elsewhere.

Tsavo is not a highlights reel. Game is spread thin across an area the size of Wales, and finding it is the point.

It rewards travellers on their second or third safari, and anyone heading to the coast who wants the bush first.

Best time to visit
June to October and January to March, in the dry.
Wildlife highlights
Red-dusted elephant, lion, lesser kudu, hirola, crocodile at Mzima.
Combine with
Sits on the Nairobi-Mombasa line, so it slots neatly before a beach week in Diani.
