Masai Mara

South-west Kenya

Masai Mara

Open grassland that runs to the horizon and the densest big-cat population in East Africa. From July the plains fill with the migration herds.

The Mara is not one place. It is a reserve, a ring of conservancies, and a network of seasonal river crossings that behave differently every year. Where you sleep decides what you see.

Conservancy camps limit vehicle numbers and permit night drives and walking, which is why we place most guests outside the main reserve and drive in for the crossings.
